Further evidence comes from research by Stephen Wright of Queen's University Belfast, who found that fish oil, in addition to alleviating the symptoms of lupus, also reduces the oxidative stress associated with heart disease, improving blood vessel function. These benefits were observed with a daily intake of 3 grams of fish oil for 6 months.
Not only that, Basant Puri, a consultant at Imperial College London, has also highlighted the potential of the Omega-3 fatty acid EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) in alleviating the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome.
As observed, the first benefits are observed after 8-12 weeks of treatment and are due to two main factors:
- Brain changes: EPA may positively influence the structure or functioning of certain areas of the brain.
- Changes in other clinical parameters: Taking high amounts of EPA may improve the overall health of the body.
These combined effects explain why people who regularly take Omega-3 notice an improvement in their symptoms, particularly a reduction in the feeling of fatigue.
Recommended diet in case of systemic lupus erythematosus
