What time of day is best to take Omega-3?
Dear Diana,
It is preferable to take Omega-3 capsules before a main meal, to promote the absorption and digestibility of the product.
Absorption is indeed favored by the other fats present in the meal. From a digestibility standpoint, taking the supplement with a meal reduces the risk of minor discomforts (such as burping and unpleasant aftertaste) that may be associated with Omega-3 supplements, especially if derived from fish oil or cod liver oil.
In this respect, compared to other products on the market, Omegor® supplements offer the advantage of greater palatability, mainly due to the sophisticated purification processes to which the raw material is subjected. In some cases, such as VitaDHA® Orange or products intended for children and teenagers (such as Omegor® Kids and VitaDHA® Brain), the addition of flavors makes supplementation even more pleasant.
Even our cod liver oil-based product (Omegor® Classic), an ingredient famous for its not-so-appreciated taste, stands out on the market for its pleasant flavor, which earned it the 2021 Superior Taste Award, a recognition given by the jury of the International Taste Institute, composed of some of the world’s best chefs and sommeliers.
How many times a day?
Omega-3 can be taken all at once or at different times during the day, according to personal needs and dosage.
For example, if you need to take 3 capsules a day, you can choose to take them all at breakfast, maybe because in this way you don’t have to carry the supplement with you during the day. Or you can take 1 capsule at breakfast, 1 at lunch, and 1 at dinner; this option may help you adhere to the dosage if taking 3 capsules at once is difficult for any reason.
If you are using Omega-3 as part of a product designed to control blood cholesterol levels, we recommend taking them at dinner—as is generally indicated for products aimed at controlling this blood parameter.
For how long?
Scientific studies suggest that to effectively integrate Omega-3 into cell membranes (where they can exert their beneficial effects), it is necessary to take them for at least 2 weeks.
However, the time needed to observe benefits can be longer. We suggest continuing supplementation without interruption for at least 2-3 months, after which, barring special circumstances, you can continue safely; Omega-3 supplements taken as recommended are generally considered safe.
We recommend that you discuss with your doctor the best way to take Omega-3 for your specific case.
Best regards,
The Omegor pharmacist team
