Is it risky to take Omega-3 during pregnancy?
I am in the eighteenth week of pregnancy and have been taking 2 capsules of Omegor Vitality 1410 mg daily for about a year. I have read conflicting opinions on the use of Omega-3 during pregnancy: some advise against it, others recommend it. Now I don’t know what to do. Should I continue with the treatment? Is the dosage correct?
Dear Monica,
several studies highlight the importance of Omega-3 supplementation during pregnancy.
DHA in particular has proven effective for:
- mothers, by preventing the depletion of reserves associated with postpartum depression;
- babies, by promoting proper development of the central nervous system and the retina.
For this reason, I recommend that you continue Omega-3 supplementation, but switch to a product specifically designed for pregnancy: VitaDHA Materna. Unlike Vitality, VitaDHA Materna has a higher concentration of DHA, which is essential especially during the last trimester of pregnancy and the first 6 months of breastfeeding. Available in sachets, the recommended dosage is 1 to 3 milliliters per day, always to be taken before meals. I hope I have been helpful and remain at your disposal for any further questions or clarifications. My best wishes to you and your baby.
