Ask the Pharmacist
Do Omega-3 supplements have positive effects on oily skin?
Good morning. I have fairly oily facial skin. In my case, could taking Omega-3 be harmful to the skin, making it even oilier? Thank you for your kind reply. Best regards.
Dear Giuseppe,
Omega-3 supplementation helps balance the composition of fatty acids in the epidermis without causing excessive sebum production by the follicles.
Sebum production can be triggered by different factors:
- endocrine causes
- digestive disorders
- nervous system issues
These are unrelated to dietary fatty acid intake, for which consulting a specialist may be appropriate.
I hope this has been helpful and remain at your disposal for any further questions or clarifications.
Best regards,
Dr. Rosaria Ramondino, Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Chemist
