Supplementation with VitaDHA Materna. When to start?

Good morning, I would like to know from which month of pregnancy omega-3 supplements are recommended? Some recommend from the first trimester, others from the second trimester. From when do you recommend your VITA DHA MATERNA? Also, do you recommend VitaDHA 1000 during pregnancy and at what doses from the first trimester? Thank you and best regards

Good afternoon,

The most important omega-3 fatty acids for our health are EPA and DHA. During pregnancy, supplementation is especially recommended with DHA, the omega-3 fatty acid with a structural function that is part of the membranes of neurons and photoreceptors in the retina. Supplementation with DHA is advisable both during the delicate period of pregnancy and later, during breastfeeding.

Adequate DHA intake by the mother is able to provide the fetus first, and the newborn later via breast milk, with a sufficient amount of this essential fatty acid for proper neural and visual development. Besides the child's development, DHA supplementation is also important for the mother's health. The fetus draws DHA from the mother's reserves for its growth and after pregnancy, the mother's DHA reserves drastically decrease, increasing the risk of postpartum depression and requiring 2 to 3 years to be restored.

The product VitaDHA Materna is a dietary supplement based on fish oil with a high concentration of DHA (450 mg per capsule) and Quatrefolic (5-MTHF glucosamine salt), the active form of folate which does not require metabolism by our body and is therefore completely absorbed by all women. Thanks to this combination, VitaDHA Materna is indicated in the periconceptional period, during pregnancy and also during breastfeeding.

From the second trimester of pregnancy and throughout breastfeeding, the following products can eventually be taken: VitaDHA 1000 softgel capsules with 1000 mg of fish oil providing 500 mg of DHA per capsule. The recommended dosage is 1 capsule per day close to a meal.
