Bronchial asthma in children, are omega-3 useful?

Hello, I would like to know which Omegor product would be suitable for my daughter who has eczema on her hands, confirmed not to be contact dermatitis. She had atopic dermatitis as a child. Thank you.

Dear Michela,

I recommend Omegor TwinEFA, a supplement based on omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA from purified fish oil and omega-6 fatty acid GLA from borage oil, with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory action. Atopic dermatitis (often also called eczema) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease.

The causes are multiple, including genetic susceptibility, immune dysfunction, epidermal barrier issues, and environmental factors. Itching is the primary symptom. It is important to keep the skin hydrated and avoid environmental triggers such as certain foods (egg white, fermented cheeses, strawberries, citrus fruits, tomatoes, chocolate, shellfish, processed meats, canned foods...), dust mites, animal hair, rough fabrics, sweat, cosmetic products (perfumes, unsuitable soaps), etc. Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is fundamental for skin health.

Several studies have shown that a deficiency in GLA leads to epidermal hyperproliferation and increased dehydration, effects that can be reversed by reintroducing GLA into the diet. Furthermore, omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are associated with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities (they regulate immune response) and increase (especially EPA) the GLA content in the skin, improving epidermal hydration.

The recommended dose of Omegor TwinEFA is 1 to 3 capsules per day before a main meal. For your daughter, I suggest 3 capsules per day for at least 3 consecutive months, which can be extended as needed without side effects. I also recommend informing your daughter's doctor to monitor the progress of the condition and the physiological benefits of supplementation and, based on this, to extend or adjust the intake method of the supplement.
