Is fish oil useful for fighting gastrointestinal disorders?
Dear Doctor, I often experience gastrointestinal disturbances with constipation. I have mild gastritis and intestinal burning, and I would like to know if fish oil could improve or worsen this situation. I am taking 4-5 Omegor Vitality 700 mg capsules before or during lunch and dinner. Thank you, Best Regards.
Dear Carlo,
Fish oil supplementation, rich in Omega-3, can help improve the symptoms of gastritis that you described.
These polyunsaturated fatty acids are able to inhibit the production of inflammatory substances: thus, they have an anti-inflammatory and protective action.
Regarding constipation, I recommend following a fiber-rich diet (mainly found in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables) along with an adequate fluid intake. These are fundamental conditions for maintaining proper bowel function.
I also suggest eating regularly, avoiding irregular meal times and hasty meals. The number of Omegor Vitality 500 capsules you are taking is correct, as is the fact that you are taking them before a main meal.
Best regards,
Dr. Rosaria Ramondino, Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Chemist
