What is the best Omega-3 supplement to take while breastfeeding?

Dear Vincenzo,

I recommend VitaDHA, a lemon-flavored liquid formulation containing 1250 milligrams of DHA and 360 milligrams of EPA. It is available in single-dose sachets containing 6.5 milliliters of oil.

Taking Omega-3 during pregnancy provides the baby, through breast milk, with a sufficient amount of this essential fatty acid necessary for proper neuronal and visual development, which is still undergoing rapid growth.

Supplementation with Omega-3 DHA is particularly recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding: after pregnancy, the reserves of this acid drastically decrease, increasing the risk of postpartum depression and requiring 2 to 3 years to be restored. I suggest taking half a sachet of oil (just over 3 milliliters) alone or adding it to plain yogurt or citrus fruits.

To avoid any possible aftertaste, it is preferable to keep the sachets in the freezer. During weaning, your wife can continue supplementation with VitaDHA, which can be added to the baby’s milk or purees at a dose of 1 milliliter. However, I remind you to consult your pediatrician first for all necessary information, opinions, and advice. Hoping to have been helpful, I remain at your disposal for any further questions or information and take this opportunity to send my best wishes to your wife and your baby. Best regards.
