Can Cardiol Forte replace Omegor Vitality 1000?

Dear Marilena,

As you correctly noted, omega-3 fatty acids are mainly effective in normalizing blood triglyceride levels, while they do not have a significant effect on total cholesterol and LDL levels. The product Cardiol Forte is not an alternative to Omegor Vitality, as it does not contain only fish oil rich in omega-3s but rather a complex formulation specifically designed to control cholesterol levels.

The main component of Cardiol Forte is red yeast rice, which is a source of a natural statin called monacolin K. Each capsule of Cardiol Forte provides 10 mg of monacolin K. Taking Cardiol Forte might be useful if your physician considers replacing your current 10 mg ezetimibe treatment for cholesterol control with a nutraceutical product such as Cardiol Forte.

These decisions must clearly be made by your physician. Regarding the gastrointestinal discomfort you experience when taking multiple capsules of Omegor Vitality, I suggest you take the capsules always with a meal—such as breakfast, lunch, or dinner—to try to reduce this discomfort. Generally, symptoms like diarrhea occur only during the initial phase of fish oil supplementation, as happens with all dietary oils when consumed in higher than usual amounts.

Such gastrointestinal symptoms usually resolve quickly once the digestive system adapts to this type of intake. I remain available for any further information you may need.
