Cholesterol and Statins, can I take Cardiol?
Hello, I have been prescribed 5 mg Triatec once a day, 100 mg Cardioaspirin once a day, and 20 mg Sivastin once a day due to hereditary problems and smoking. What do you recommend? Also, can I take Cardiol Forte and if so, how and when? Otherwise, how can I take Coenzyme Q10 since I understand it is very important?
Dear Corrado,
Cardiol Forte is a dietary supplement based on omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA from fish oil, artichoke extract, monacolins from fermented red yeast rice, olive extract standardized in hydroxytyrosol, and coenzyme Q10. The formulation is completed by vitamin E, piperine, and folic acid.
Monacolins, particularly Monacolin K, are natural statins, and their chemical structure is identical to that of lovastatin, one of the cholesterol-lowering drug categories. Therefore, this product should not be taken if you are already on cholesterol-lowering medication. Unfortunately, in our supplement line, we do not have a product containing only Coenzyme Q10.
Since you already report taking multiple medications and possible interactions, we recommend that you ask your treating physician specifically about this. You can discuss the possibility of using our products with your doctor, who, knowing your medical history, current medications, and possible interactions with supplement ingredients, will be able to advise the most appropriate therapeutic approach for you.
I remain available for any further information.
Best regards,
Rosaria Ramondino Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Chemist
