Good and Bad Cholesterol: How to Raise HDL?
I am 53 years old... After using about 12 grams of soy lecithin per day for about a month to lower cholesterol, I have the following lab results: triglycerides 109 (normal values 0 - 150), total cholesterol 164 (normal values 150 - 200), HDL cholesterol 35 (normal values 45 - 65). Which Omegor product could I take and in what quantity to increase HDL? Can I combine soy lecithin and omega-3 to keep cholesterol under control? If yes, in what amounts?
Dear Madam,
To maintain normal heart function and normal blood triglyceride levels, I recommend supplementation with the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA found in Omegor Vitality.
The combination of soy lecithin and omega-3 is certainly feasible. If you have been comfortable with the lecithin dosage you used, I suggest adding 1 or 2 capsules of Omegor Vitality daily – to be taken just before or during a main meal, so as to provide a good daily dose of omega-3 EPA and DHA that support heart function.
Good cholesterol: how to increase it?
As for increasing HDL ("good" cholesterol) levels, one of the most effective ways to raise plasma HDL is physical activity – because this parameter is little influenced by drugs. Physical activity does not necessarily mean practicing a sport, but having an active lifestyle. Activities able to significantly raise HDL cholesterol levels include:
- avoiding taking the elevator
- using the stairs on foot
- dedicating at least 30 minutes per day to brisk walking
- following as varied a diet as possible
- quitting smoking
Smoking negatively influences HDL levels. In short, favor a healthy and active lifestyle, take time daily for a walk, and, if you smoke, quit as soon as possible. I remain available for further information.
