Seventy-Year-Old Heart Patient with Diabetes, Which Omega-3 Is Best?

Which supplement should be used for a 70-year-old man with serious problems related to both diabetes and heart disease?

Dear Giuseppina,

In elderly patients, the simultaneous presence of heart disease and diabetes represents a complex situation. For this reason, it is essential that any dietary supplementation is done with the consent of the treating physician, who knows the patient’s history and ongoing drug therapies.

Omegor® Vitality

I suggest you check with your doctor about the possibility of taking a concentrated and pure Omega-3 fatty acid dietary supplement such as Omegor® Vitality.

Supplementation with Omega-3 EPA and DHA fatty acids can provide the following cardiovascular health benefits:

  • help maintain normal heart function (by taking at least 250 mg of EPA + DHA daily);
  • help maintain normal blood triglyceride levels (by taking 2 g of EPA + DHA daily);
  • help maintain normal blood pressure levels (by taking 3 g of EPA + DHA daily).

Omegor® Vitality is available in two variants:

  • Omegor® Vitality 500, which with just 1 capsule per day provides enough EPA + DHA to promote good heart function;
  • Omegor® Vitality 1000, particularly suitable for reaching higher dosages, such as those necessary for triglyceride control (3 capsules per day of Omegor® Vitality 1000) or blood pressure control (4 capsules per day of Omegor® Vitality 1000).

Omegor® Vitality contains EPA and DHA from fish (minimum 80% in a 2:1 ratio) in a readily absorbable form (natural triglycerides). Absorption can be optimized by taking the capsules with a main meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner), either as a single dose or divided doses depending on individual needs and the doctor’s advice.

Taking the supplement with meals also has the advantage of minimizing the possibility of unwanted digestive disturbances (such as fishy aftertaste).
