Diabetes, are there any contraindications to consuming omega-3?
Good morning, I would like to give your omega-3 product with vitamin E to my husband. He is diabetic, can I give it to him? Thank you
Dear Madam,
In the case of diabetes, the intake of omega‐3 fatty acids is not contraindicated; on the contrary, a proper intake of omega‐3 EPA and DHA (at least 1 g per day) can be useful for many disorders associated with this condition:
- inflammation. Omega-3 can gradually reduce the pro-inflammatory and pro-thrombotic state typical of diabetes;
- circulation. Omega-3 supplementation can promote normal peripheral circulation;
- vision and nervous system. It is possible that 1 g per day of omega-3 EPA and DHA has a trophic effect on the retina and central nervous system.
For your husband, who suffers from diabetes, the recommended dose is 1-2 softgels per day of Omegor Vitality 1000 – to be taken shortly before main meals. I recommend informing the doctor if your husband decides to take Omegor Vitality or any other supplement: any dietary supplementation should be undertaken in agreement with the treating physician, especially if concomitant pharmacological therapies are present. I remain available for further questions.
