Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: Do You Recommend Omegor Twinefa?

I would kindly like to know the amount of GLA present in each TwinEFA capsule and how to avoid saturation effects. Is it advisable to take it cyclically? For example, one month on and one month off. I would like to try giving it to my daughter who has Hashimoto’s thyroiditis with hair loss. Thank you.

Dear Sir,

In cases of thyroiditis, a diet that helps reduce inflammation levels is very useful. For this reason, dietary supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA and with omega-6 GLA, which have marked anti-inflammatory action, is particularly recommended.

The general advice for your daughter is to prioritize foods with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity—which can be of concrete help to those suffering from thyroiditis. So yes to the consumption of fatty fish such as sardines, mackerel, or wild salmon, raw extra virgin olive oil, fruits, whole grains, and spices like turmeric and ginger. As a dietary supplement, the dosage I recommend for your daughter of Omegor TwinEFA is at least 2 capsules per day, to be taken with a main meal. Indeed, each capsule of Omegor TwinEFA contains:

  • 10 mg of GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) from borage oil
  • 400 mg of EPA and 200 mg of DHA from purified fish oil concentrated by multiple molecular distillation, with omega-3 in triglyceride form—thus highly bioavailable to our body.

With this supplementation, you will directly supply GLA to the body—which, through the action of an enzyme called elongase, will allow the formation of dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA), a precursor of series 1 prostaglandins (PGE1) with anti-inflammatory and anti-platelet properties. This potentially supports the anti-inflammatory action useful in thyroiditis.

Please note: supplement intake must always be agreed upon with the treating physician—especially if pharmacological therapies are ongoing. I remain available for further information.

Kind regards,
