High cholesterol and triglycerides, which is better: Meaquor or Cardiol Forte?
Good morning Doctor, I am writing to ask for some advice on Omegor products. Thank you in advance for your reply. I must say that unfortunately my doctor does not know your products, which prompted me to write to you considering the discussions I have read online. I am 1.72 m tall, weigh 79 kg, I am 53 years old, an entrepreneur and I have been a NON-smoker for one year and two months (although even today I am not fully convinced to quit permanently and continue to chew 6-8 Nicorette gums). Stressful work, especially psychologically, and some sedentary lifestyle (office work about 11-12 hours) have brought me some “problems” in the last 10 years (mainly high triglycerides and cholesterol, hypertension). Maybe heredity also plays a role, considering that my mother at 78 still has the same problems. Stress, cholesterol always around 220/260 and triglycerides always over 300, along with a daily diastolic pressure always above 90/95, about 3 years ago also caused me an episode of "suspected TIA". Basically, I was confused for a few hours… At that time, for three months, the doctor prescribed Seacor, Varstat, Cardioaspirin and Doxafin. At the end of the treatment, cholesterol and triglycerides levels lowered, while the high blood pressure (diastolic) was solved only about 4 months ago, thanks to a finally effective medication called Ratipred. For cholesterol and triglycerides, after that period, considering the long-term contraindications of drugs, my doctor introduced me to supplements. So I have been taking for over two years (never stopped) 1 tablet of “Colecrill” (Pharmaluce) in the morning and two tablets (one at lunch and one at dinner) of “Omega3 Cardio” (VITI). Indeed, cholesterol levels have decreased to date but triglycerides only slightly, below are my latest reports (semi-annual tests over the last two years): Total cholesterol 222 186 197 161 HDL cholesterol 38 36 38 31 LDL cholesterol 163 145 140 104 triglycerides 297 239 225 326 I therefore ask which of your products are most suitable for the problems described above, the dosage and also the duration/frequency of the treatment. Your Vitality seems excellent but I read a response of yours (similar problem) where you recommended Cardiol and Meaquor 1000. P.S.: Apart from Vitality, is the fish oil contained in your other products always certified? THANK YOU AGAIN
Dear Sir,
Based on the values you reported for Total Cholesterol, LDL and HDL Cholesterol, and triglycerides, my advice is to discuss with your doctor the possibility of using the products Cardiol Forte and Meaquor 1000.Cardiol Forte is a food supplement based on omega-3 EPA and DHA from fish oil and fermented red rice, a source of a natural statin, monacolin K, which contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels.
Each capsule of Cardiol Forte provides 10 mg of monacolin K. Cardiol Forte also contains the polyphenol hydroxytyrosol, present in olive fruit, and a high dose (100 mg/capsule) of Coenzyme Q10, which helps to compensate for the deficiency of this antioxidant that may occur during treatment with statins or similar statin-like drugs. The recommended dose for Cardiol Forte is 1 capsule per day to be taken in the evening close to dinner for a period of at least 2 months, after which routine blood tests should be repeated to verify the effectiveness of the supplementation. Regarding triglycerides, values can be controlled with 2 grams per day of omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, which contribute to maintaining normal blood triglyceride levels.
The reason why, in some replies, I recommended the product Meaquor 1000 rather than Omegor Vitality is linked to the concentration of the two products and therefore the EPA and DHA content per capsule. Among the products in our line, Meaquor 1000 has the highest concentration of EPA and DHA. Thanks to its high dosage, Meaquor 1000 allows you to reach the recommended dose of 2 g per day of EPA+DHA for the control of triglycerides.
Omegor Vitality contains instead 630 mg EPA+DHA per capsule. Both products are however IFOS 5-star certified for purity, concentration, and freshness on all production batches and therefore provide the same quality guarantee. On the pages below you can find the descriptions of the two products and the links to the IFOS certificates of the batches on the market.
To improve your HDL levels, which from the indicated values appear rather low, I recommend you continue to refrain from smoking and to practice moderate daily physical activity such as a brisk walk of at least 30 minutes a day. Based on what has been said, I invite you to verify with your doctor the possibility of taking 1 capsule per day of Cardiol Forte in the evening and 2 capsules per day of Meaquor 1000, at a main meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner).
Kind regards,
Rosaria Ramondino Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Chemist
