High Cholesterol in Pre-Menopause, Can Omega-3 Help?

Hello. I am writing to ask for your advice. I am 47 years old and have all the symptoms of pre-menopause: intense sweating, weight gain, interrupted sleep, but above all, my LDL cholesterol has risen. My total cholesterol is 220, with normal triglycerides, good cholesterol above values, and LDL cholesterol within limits but it has risen quite a lot in the last year. I wanted to take Omega-3s but reading various questions, I wonder if it is the right choice. What would you recommend? Thank you, Lisa

Dear Lisa,

The product we recommend is Cardiol Forte, a dietary supplement based on omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA from fish oil, red yeast rice extract, olive extract standardized in Hydroxytyrosol, and Coenzyme Q10.

The formulation is completed with vitamin E, piperine, and folic acid (important for the proper metabolism of homocysteine, a metabolite that when elevated increases cardiovascular risk). Moreover, the intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA per day contributes to normal heart function.

Cardiol Forte also contains artichoke extract. This powder extract obtained from the leaves of Cynara cardunculus L. is standardized to 10% chlorogenic acid and derivatives (bioflavonoids) and 2% luteolin 7-glucoside and derivatives (flavonoids). The bioflavonoids contained in the artichoke extract have choleretic, cholagogue, and hepatoprotective activity; furthermore, the flavonoids inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis and protect LDL from oxidative damage.

We generally recommend consulting your physician who is aware of the medications you take, the possible interactions with the ingredients of dietary supplements you usually consume or want to add to your diet, and is knowledgeable about your clinical history. Additionally, we naturally recommend informing your physician of all dietary measures (diet, supplements) you intend to adopt as well as discussing the possibility of using our products, so that together you can decide on the most appropriate therapy.
