Hyperactivity and Twinefa, which supplement is the right one?
I bought Tweda for my 7-year-old son who shows problems with hyperactivity and attention; lately he sometimes has a nervous tic with his head. However, he has no problems with reading or memory, which is excellent. I am giving him one pill a day that he takes very willingly. I would like to know if I have purchased the correct product for him, what the right dose is, and for how long he should take the product.
Dear Milena,
As a general premise, dietary supplements should be considered as nutritional support with exclusively nutritive and physiological effects to help the regular functioning of the body. The intake of omega-3 EPA and DHA fatty acid supplements is particularly indicated when dietary intake is low or when there is an increased need. Omega-3 DHA is useful for maintaining normal brain and visual functions with a daily intake of at least 250 mg. Considering the hyperactivity, I recommend that your child takes this supplementation always in agreement with the opinion of his/her doctor, and I suggest sharing with them the recent Oxford-Durham study on hyperactivity and behavioral disorders:
- This study evaluated the supplementation with omega-3 (EPA and DHA) and omega-6 (GLA) in children affected by behavioral disorders for 3 months.
- 117 children aged 5 to 12 with dyspraxia showed a statistically significant improvement in behavioral, reading, and pronunciation skills after taking a supplement based on EPA, DHA, and GLA.
The dosage used in the study corresponds to about 2 pearls of Omegor Twinefa per day to be taken before a main meal – breakfast, lunch, or dinner. No side effects were observed at this dosage in the above study. However, I want to stress that only the treating physician can evaluate the applicability or not of this type of supplementation to your child's situation and the hyperactivity he shows. I remain available for further information.
