Hypertension in menopause: which supplement?

I am 58 years old and have been taking pills for hypertension for one year, which appeared at the beginning of menopause, with family history factors as well. Which product could be suitable for my case?

Dear Madam,

For hypertension, you may find potential benefit from the regular consumption of omega-3 EPA and DHA. Indeed, EPA and DHA fatty acids could progressively exert a positive effect on blood pressure—through increased vascular compliance and a slight increase in peripheral vasodilation.

The European Commission indicates that to achieve this effect, that is, to help maintain normal blood pressure values, a dosage of 3 g of omega-3 EPA and DHA per day is necessary: corresponding to 4-5 capsules of Omegor Vitality 1000 or 3-4 capsules of Meaquor 1000. Since you are already on antihypertensive medication, it is advisable that the intake of omega-3 EPA and DHA fatty acids at doses of 2-3 grams per day occurs in agreement with your physician, also because after 1-2 months of supplementation a readjustment of the antihypertensive medication dosage may be necessary.

Based on the above, my advice for your hypertension is as follows:

  • To evaluate with your doctor the possibility of taking a supplement such as Omegor Vitality or Meaquor 1000 at a dosage of 3 capsules per day;
  • thus contributing to a rebalancing of blood pressure;
  • with the aim of progressively reducing the dose of antihypertensive medication.
