I have a headache, is it a side effect of omega-3?
I started taking Omegor Vitality 1000 last night and I have a headache. Is it a coincidence, or am I intolerant? The doctor advised me to take two capsules in the morning and two in the evening.
Dear Madam,
Headache is not a commonly reported side effect. Usually, the side effects that may occur after taking fish oil are gastrointestinal in nature: flatulence, belching, or more commonly diarrhea—due to the emollient effect of oils. These effects generally occur at doses above 2 capsules.
Intolerances can more easily manifest as headaches. Regarding a possible intolerance to the product, if you do not have intolerance to anchovies and sardines—the fish species from which the oil is extracted—you should in principle tolerate the fish oil well.
The headache could be related to digestion. However, our products use oil with omega-3 in triglyceride form—which is much more digestible and absorbable compared to other fish oils on the market that contain omega-3 in ethyl ester form.
If the headache persists or is bothersome, you may try stopping Omegor Vitality for a day—then start the supplementation gradually with one capsule a day and see if the headache recurs. You can then gradually increase the dose until you reach the dosage recommended by your doctor.
I remain available for further information.
