Ask the Pharmacist

I take cardioaspirin, can I take omega-3?

Good evening, can I take omega-3 while taking cardioaspirin? I would like to know if there are any contraindications, and if so, what they are?

Dear Madam,

There are no contraindications to taking omega-3 alongside the treatment with cardioaspirin. On the contrary, omega-3s could actually be beneficial for you while taking cardioaspirin. International guidelines for secondary cardiovascular prevention recommend:

  1. the prescription of aspirin at a dosage of 100 mg per day (cardioaspirin),
  2. the recommendation to consume omega-3-rich fish two or three times a week or to take 1g of omega-3 per day through supplementation.

If your usual diet does not include a high consumption of fish, you may consider taking 1-2 capsules of Omegor Vitality 1000 per day.

Omegor Vitality is a dietary supplement made from concentrated fish oil with omega-3s, providing 420 mg of EPA and 210 mg of DHA per capsule—the two omega-3 fatty acids that have beneficial effects on our body. In combination with cardioaspirin therapy, it is beneficial for your diet to be rich in omega-3s.

However, I recommend that you inform your doctor if you decide to start omega-3 supplementation. The doctor should always be informed about any dietary changes or supplementation, especially when undergoing pharmacological treatment, such as in the case of cardioaspirin.

I remain available for further information.
