Ask the Pharmacist

Isn't there a risk of contracting mad cow disease with bovine edible gelatin?

Dear Doctor, since the gelatin is of bovine origin, isn't there a risk of contracting mad cow disease? I know the animals are controlled, but even this year the newspapers reported cases of people affected by this disease. If possible, could you suggest to the company to avoid this ingredient?

Dear Giorgia,

Our gelatin is of bovine origin, but it is certified as BSE/TSE Free, meaning it is free from the agents that cause mad cow disease.

There is no risk of contamination as the controls are very strict.
