I suffer from migraines: are Omega-3 a useful adjuvant? Is there a risk of interaction with Laroxyl and Almogran?
Good morning. While researching online, I came across your website and your product Omegor Vitality. The information I read about Omega-3 is interesting, and I would like to ask the following question. For about 15 days, I have been undergoing treatment for migraines as prescribed by a specialist. The treatment consists of: - for migraine prevention: 15 drops/day of Laroxyl; - for acute migraine attacks: 1 tablet of Almogran at the onset of symptoms. I’ve heard that Omega-3, when taken as a certified dietary supplement in proper doses, may also be a good adjunct in such treatments. Could you kindly provide your advice on this hypothesis? Is there a risk of interaction with the medications I mentioned? Thank you.
Dear Francesco,
Your question is not easy to answer definitively: there are different types of migraines, and individual responses to active ingredients must be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
In individuals with deficiencies, Omega-3s from fish oil (EPA and DHA) improve synaptic function, mood, and some forms of major depression. Regarding migraines, Omega-3s have been observed to potentially reduce the frequency and intensity of attacks; however, there is no absolute certainty about their effectiveness for treatment and prevention.
My suggestion is to try a dosage of 1.8–3 grams of EPA + DHA (corresponding to 3–5 capsules of Omegor Vitality 1000) for at least 60 days and observe your personal response. Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA do not interact with the medications you are currently taking.
I recommend speaking with your primary care physician regarding the opportunity to begin such supplementation and appropriate dosing. I hope this has been helpful.
Best regards,
Dr. Rosaria Ramondino, Pharmacist
