My 21 month old daughter is on anti-epileptic therapy: can she take Omega-3?
Dear Davide,
there should be no contraindications to the intake of Omega-3.
However, before starting supplementation, I recommend consulting the doctor treating your daughter: this is a necessary step to determine whether fatty acid supplementation can be combined with her current medication. The links below refer to scientific studies on the use of Omega-3 fatty acids in epileptic patients, which you may wish to share with your doctor:
1) Polyunsaturated fatty acids and epilepsy - Taha - 2010 - Epilepsia - Wiley Online Library.
The product I can recommend is Omegor Vitality 1000, an IFOS-certified supplement that contains per capsule 420 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and 210 mg of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
You can start by giving your daughter 1 capsule of Omegor Vitality per day, shortly before a main meal. Vitality capsules can also be pierced: in this way, the oil can be taken directly or added to yogurt and spreadable cheese. I hope I have answered your questions and remain at your disposal for any further clarification.
Kind regards,
Dr. Rosaria Ramondino Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Chemist
