Anxiety Remedies: Are Omega-3s Helpful?

Good morning, I suffer from severe anxiety and would like to know if Omega-3 could help me, as I constantly take anxiolytics. Thank you.

Dear Patrizia,

a diet deficient in Omega-3 fatty acids has been associated in humans with an increased risk of developing the following conditions:

  • attention disorders;
  • mood disorders;
  • thought disorders;
  • anxiety states.

Many scientific studies highlight the positive effect of supplementation with Omega-3 in these particular conditions.

The action of these fatty acids is linked to the ability of EPA and DHA to regulate the production of the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, promoting mood balance, calmness, and coordination. EPA also modulates the production of inflammatory prostaglandins that appear to be involved in anxiety and depression states.

The product I recommend is Omegor Vitality 1000, a highly concentrated and purified supplement of Omega-3 EPA and DHA fatty acids in triglyceride form, which our body absorbs more easily. 2-3 capsules per day represent the effective Omega-3 dose for these types of disorders, to be taken in 1 or 2 divided doses before a meal.

You should notice a progressive improvement after 4 weeks of supplementation. However, I recommend that you talk to your primary care physician and inform them about your decision to start an Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation alongside other pharmacological therapies.
