I have high cholesterol, but I don't want to take statins: could Cardiol be the right product for me?
Dear Domenico,
The first advice I would give you to help lower cholesterol without statins is to try to follow as healthy and varied a diet as possible:
- Do not make drastic cuts to your diet;
- Do not overconsume fats, but do not eliminate them completely. Prefer unsaturated fats typical of vegetable oils and fish;
- Eat fish at least 2-3 times a week;
- Prefer whole carbohydrate sources (cereals, pasta, and bread) over “refined” ones (such as white bread and flour): foods rich in fiber and slow-release starch are absorbed more slowly and keep blood insulin levels more stable;
- Consume at least 5 servings a day of fruit and vegetables, preferably seasonal.
Regarding your specific cholesterol problem, please consider the threshold at which statins are prescribed. The key parameter is LDL cholesterol, commonly called “bad” cholesterol. To decide when to start statins, LDL levels are evaluated along with cardiovascular risk, which your doctor can determine based on multiple factors. Generally, even for low-risk people, LDL levels above 190 mg/dL—as in your case—may warrant these medications.
To answer your question about alternatives to statins for lowering cholesterol, and more specifically how to reduce “bad” cholesterol without statins, I suggest discussing with your doctor the use of Eulipid. Eulipid is a supplement free of statin-like substances that acts through the properties of berberine from Berberis aristata. Berberine works on cholesterol levels by a different mechanism than statins, increasing hepatic cholesterol uptake. Besides berberine, Eulipid contains resveratrol from Polygonum cuspidatum, bioflavonoids from Citrus reticulata, alpha-lipoic acid, vitamin E, policosanols, and coenzyme Q10; taken within a healthy balanced diet, this formula may support cardiovascular health in people with moderate cholesterol excess.
Additionally, to fully protect your cardiovascular health, you might combine Eulipid with Meaquor 1000, an Omega-3 EPA and DHA supplement that contributes to normal heart function.
I emphasize the importance of consulting your doctor to choose the most suitable option based on your health status and any possible interactions with medications or other supplements you take. This evaluation will help your doctor determine whether Eulipid alone, or combined with Meaquor, is appropriate, or if a non-statin cholesterol-lowering medication would be better. There are indeed cholesterol-lowering drugs without statins.
Your doctor will also advise on the treatment duration and modalities. It is difficult to estimate how long it takes to lower cholesterol with or without statins, especially without knowing more about your health condition.
I hope this has been helpful and invite you to contact us again for any further questions.
Best regards,
Dr. Silvia Soligon, PhD
