Rheumatoid Arthritis: Can Omega 3 Help?
Dear Chiara,
the usefulness of polyunsaturated fatty acid supplements (particularly EPA and DHA) as an adjunct to pharmacological treatment in chronic inflammatory and autoimmune rheumatic diseases has been highlighted by several clinical studies. The main mechanism of action of omega-3 fatty acids is the inhibition of the synthesis of molecules (called eicosanoids) with pro-inflammatory activity derived from arachidonic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid.
Following your rheumatologist's advice, you may supplement your diet with 2-3 capsules per day of Omegor Vitality 1000 fish oil supplement, to be taken before a main meal. Gradually, this omega-3 supplement may also help alleviate chronic pain associated with the condition and reduce the need for anti-inflammatory NSAID medications.
I remain available for any further information.
Best regards, Dr. Rosaria Ramondino Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Chemist
