Could increased uric acid be due to omega-3 supplements?

I have been taking Vitality omega-3 for some time. I was found to have a high uric acid level. Could it be due to the omega-3 intake since anchovies have a high purine content?

Dear Catia,

The increase in uric acid does not depend on the consumption of omega-3; purines, although present in high concentrations in many fish products, are not part of fish oil. In fact, the polyunsaturated fatty acids that compose it can reduce joint inflammation caused by the precipitation of uric acid crystals.

In this regard, I recommend reading the article published on our blog.

You can therefore safely continue using Omegor Vitality, a product based on fish oil rich in omega-3 obtained through a sophisticated purification process that minimizes the amount of contaminants present in fish.

However, I advise you to follow an appropriate diet, i.e., low in proteins and fats, trying to reduce as much as possible the consumption of foods rich in purines such as certain fish (sardines, anchovies, and sardines, in fact), and meat, especially offal, chicken, game, and cured meats.
