Which omega-3s for my kids and my thyroiditis?

Dear Doctor, I am the mother of two boys, Nicol 14 years old and Demi 13 years old. In the past, I gave my children the VitaDHA vials. I stopped because they couldn’t tolerate the taste. I would like to know if I can give them the Vitality capsules instead, and at what daily dosage. I have another question regarding myself: I am 42 years old and have congenital thyroiditis, and I know this condition causes me lack of concentration. Could you advise me which supplement I could take? Thank you

Dear Francesca,

Before discussing your thyroiditis, I want to inform you that the ideal solution for your boys could be Omegor Kids chewable capsules. Omegor Kids is a supplement in chewable capsules with a blackcurrant flavor – based on fish oil rich in omega‐3 DHA (250 mg per daily dose) and vitamins A, C, D3 and E.

Its formulation and taste are designed precisely for children – to help them "acquire a taste" for omega-3.

The dosage I recommend is 2 capsules per day to be given to your boys at any time of the day.

Thyroiditis and Omega-3: the right diet and Omegor TwinEFA

Let’s now return to your thyroiditis.
In case of thyroiditis, a diet that allows to reduce inflammation levels is very useful. For this reason, dietary supplementation with omega‐3 EPA and DHA is particularly recommended, as omega-3 DHA and EPA exert a powerful anti-inflammatory effect in our body. Therefore, I recommend Omegor TwinEFA – a synergistic formulation based on omega‐3 (EPA and DHA) from fish oil and omega‐6 (GLA – gamma-linolenic acid) from borage oil, which could be beneficial for congenital thyroiditis. The omega‐3/omega‐6 combination:

  • has shown a powerful anti-inflammatory effect
  • has been useful to improve mood, anxiety states, and sleep quality by reducing cortisol levels, the so-called stress hormone

It would therefore also meet your need to support concentration. Supplementation should be combined with a diet designed for thyroiditis: the general advice is to favor foods with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, such as:

  • fatty fish, such as sardines, mackerel, or wild salmon;
  • extra virgin olive oil (raw);
  • fruit;
  • whole grains;
  • spices like turmeric and ginger.

The dosage I recommend for Omegor TwinEFA is at least 2 capsules per day to be taken with a main meal – breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I remain available for further information.
