Rebellious Skin: Fight the Problem with Diet and Supplements
Acne: Omega-3, a great remedy!
It’s a problem that almost everyone went through during adolescence but for many, it persists into adulthood. We’re talking about acne. As always, diet is one of the triggering factors, along with stress, anger, and hormonal imbalances.
In several articles we have already discussed the role of Omega 3 as a valuable support for stress-related problems. Now let’s see the targeted function of Omega 3 directly on acne-prone skin.
Poor diet and pimples
It will come as no surprise that the very same foods to avoid to combat acne are rich in saturated fats, which are harmful not only for heart and artery health but also a real factor for increasing obesity:
- butter
- cream
- ice cream
- cheese
- pork and processed meats
- fried foods
- sugary drinks
- white bread
Our body instead needs other types of fats for good health, essential fatty acids, found in fish, flaxseeds, nuts and whole grains, and algae.
Foods to try against comedones
Now let’s look in detail at which foods can help us control the formation and proliferation of pimples. They are all foods rich in Omega 3 and combined with a targeted fatty acid supplement, as recommended by our pharmacist, they can provide an effective attack plan against this hated blemish:
- Olive oil: also sesame and flaxseed oils. They contain essential fatty acids necessary for good health. Fats are integral parts of cell membranes and help nourish the skin.
- Green tea: able to reduce androgen production, it is well known to be rich in a chemical anti-inflammatory that helps fight free radicals and prevent wrinkles.
- Nuts: rich in omega-3, with antioxidant power that helps keep skin elastic.
- Berries: blueberries, raspberries, and red fruits in general are rich in phytochemicals that protect skin cells.
- Whole grain bread and/or with seeds and nuts: foods like nuts and seeds are rich in selenium, a great help for maintaining healthy skin. Experts say selenium plays a key role in skin cell health.
- Apples: contain significant amounts of pectin, an enemy of acne. However, they should be eaten with the skin on, as most pectin is contained there.
